Sports in our
lives
Sport is a type
of exercise that is structured in order to achieve a goal through the competition,
under a wide range of rules and each sport demands different skills to perform
it correctly. I think the sports are present in history of humankind many
centuries ago, the Greeks developed magnificent events known as Olympic games,
where they performed the beginning of the actual athletics and artistic gymnastic.
In Chile the sports are developed in the schools as a public health policy,
however is no enough because Chile is one of the countries with the higher
levels of childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyle in Latin-America. Sport are
also the principal attraction in Chile, because when Chilean football team plays
all the country stopped to watch the match. People know better the football
players than the politicians.
I remember good
moments in my childhood related with sports. When I was in second grade the
school organized a “sport day” once a year, in which my classmates and our
parents played altogether different sports like basketball, volleyball, football,
etc. it was very funny. Also, in holidays my brothers and me play tennis many
times. We could play all day and did not realize the time that we had expended
in this activity.
Sports need basic
skills to be performed. Some of them need agility, speed and accuracy, but others
need strength and power. My favorite sport is the football soccer. Play football
is a very good way to do exercise and, at the same time, enjoy the competition.
Football is very curious sport because needs skills that neither other sport
needs, I am referring to lower limb skills. Almost all sports are supported in the upper
limbs, a part of our body that we use perfectly and delicately, but the lower
limbs are made only for the locomotion. Use the legs in precise movements is
very difficult, however in the football, players use these body parts perfectly
in accurate way.
